The Mattighofen primary school has already been extended several times. The new town hall is an extension that frees the school as a solitary building. This positioning also gives the school an independent presence in the urban fabric. The new building adapts to its surroundings, its geometry follows the street, formulates a closure to the car park and the park - but at the same time it is a building that stands on its own in an ensemble.
The after-school care centre is planned as another solitary component of this ensemble, as a place for schoolchildren to spend time, adapted to the scale of the children. The after-school care centre is a single-storey building. There are rest areas on a gallery adjacent to the group rooms.
Between the buildings (school, hall and after-school care centre), an enclosed outdoor space is created - an open-air foyer. This can be used together with the hall foyer for events, but also serves as an additional playground for the school children. The newly created spaces promote the cohesion of the complex and integrate the park and the music school's villa. The hall is oriented towards the city, the after-school care centre to the south towards the park. The continuous, common roof pitch of the hall and the after-school care centre slopes downwards from the city towards the park.
The buildings are given a wooden supporting structure that is closed and opened over a large area. The memorable shape of the façade supports the solitary character of the buildings.
